The Europa Splendid is a revered building steeped in history, located in the centre of the thermal city of Merano. The current owners, the Strohmer Family, have owned the building since 1951. Decades, however, are nothing more than a number.
For us, it is about valuing time and carrying history forward into the future. A house like this holds memories – yet it continues to evolve. That is precisely what defines the character of the Europa Splendid.
A house that accompanies Merano
The Europa Splendid is one of the most distinctive Art Nouveau buildings in the center of Merano, located directly on the promenade Corso della Libertà. Its history is closely intertwined with that of the spa town. During the Second World War, Merano became a hospital town, and the Europa Splendid, like many other buildings in the city, served as part of this medical infrastructure.
The years of renewal
With the purchase of the property by the Strohmer family in 1951, a new era began. The hotel was restored, expanded, and once again became a vibrant meeting place in the city. During the years of economic growth, celebrations, dance evenings, and balls were an essential part of social life at the Europa Splendid. Elegant guests, music, and long summer evenings on the terrace shaped both the house and the atmosphere of that time.
The living room of Merano’s locals
This openness remains to this day. Thanks to its location opposite the city theatre and in the heart of Merano, the Europa Splendid has long been more than just a hotel. Whether for a morning coffee, an afternoon aperitif, or dinner on the terrace – our Liberty’s Bar & Bistro has been, for generations, the living room of Merano’s locals and a meeting place for visitors to the city.
