Winter hiking tip: from Merano 2000 to the Kuhleiten Hut
Short, challenging – wonderful.
From the cable car station, the route heads towards the Waidmann mountain hut and continues past the picturesque St Oswald's Church. It then climbs steeply to the Kuhleiten refuge (trail no. 19A). Is there a lot of snow? The route is easier with snowshoes or cross-country skis.
From the hut, which is located at the foot of the Ivigna, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Zillertal Alps, the Ötztal Alps, the Texel Group and the Ortler-Cevedale. In the distance, you can even catch a glimpse of the Dolomites. Christine and Uli welcome their guests at the hut with open arms and delicious South Tyrolean specialities.
